Cullasaja Women's Outreach Grant Recipients 2014 and 2015

2014 Grant Recipients:

The Bascom: Underwrite outreach program for K-12 with community partners

Big Brothers/Big Sister: Fund children facing adversity with one-on-one mentoring to improve academic and classroom performance.

Blue Ridge Mtns Health Project: To support the Clinic’s Prosthetics which CWO has done since 2007. Gives crowns and dentures when major extracts are required. 15 patients to benefit.

Boys and Girls Club of The Plateau: New program in Cashiers, grant would support “Power Hour” of Project Learn helping a finite number of students with homework & tutoring.

Community Care Clinic: Provide medical services for 1200 patient visits of approx 500 people. 

Counseling & Psychotherapy Center of Highlands: Fully pay therapists offering their services on a sliding scale basis to provide quality outpatient counseling. 

Fishes & Loaves Food Pantry: Supplies to again serve 2200 households

The Gathering Table, Cashiers: Providing 45-60 hot meals to area residents in need once a week; free health screening.

Highlands Com Child Development Center: Offers age-related development activities. 

Highlands Emergency Council: Heating Assistance-served 64 families in ’12 

Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust: 50% funding of Kids and Nature Program w/ other coming from 3 other sources. Prog. offers guided, outdoor learning on ecological subject & is focused on 3rd & 4th graders in 2 Cashiers schools. 

Highlands Historical Society: Helps to paint oldest house in Highlands. Repairs to 1877 home.Addresses rot and flaking paint

Hospice House Foundation of WNC: Operating support for their capital campaign to convert a Franklin, NC, house to a 12-bed hospice facility for Western NC. Partnering with Four Seasons CLF hospice caregivers.

International Friendship Center (IFC): English as Second Language” program has had 33 students. Cover cost of babysitting, setup and clean up, part of food cost, 15 Heinle Picture Dictionaries

IFC/ Food Pantry General Operating: Provide food monthly to those 265 households(1113 individuals) who meet income eligibility guidelines for USDA food.

Literacy Council of Highlands, Inc: After school Children’s enrichment program (2 afternoons/wk for 12 children). Includes after school program, book distributions and mobilizing literacy program. Approx 375 people served

Martin-Lipscomb Performing Arts: Install new light baton to provide better and more creative lighting options and to better light the front of the stage.
 
The Peggy Crosby Center: To maintain and operate quality, affordable office space for non-profits
